Frequently Asked Questions

       Addressing questions you might have.

  • When exactly is your litter due? - Females do not cycle on a regular schedule. Until they are actually in season any litter timing is a best guess. A litter arrives approximately 63 days after breeding.

  • How often do you have litters? - Typically at least one litter a year is born at Encore.

  • How will I know when you have a litter due? - If available approximate time information is shared on the Puppies Page. Once a pregnancy is confirmed details are added to my site.

  • Will there be fawn or brindle puppies available? - Fawn parents can only produce fawn puppies. Brindle parents can produce both brindles and fawns. Two flashy parents of either color can produce whites.

  • What is the difference between show and pet puppies? - The conformation differences are very minute. Males who do not have two descended testicles and white puppies are always pets.

  • Are all puppies in each litter available as pets? - Encore is a long standing, preservation breeder focused on producing healthy dogs with excellent temperaments who adhere to the AKC standard. A select number of puppies that rise to the exceptional level are placed wtih homes who make the commitment to show. There are typically pets in every litter.

  • Are health issues inherent for white puppies? - Health issues are not directly related to their color, very rarely they can be deaf. White puppies are genetically colored puppies with an overabundance of white markings.

  • May I visit Encore? - Visiting breeders has historically been recommended but unfortunately the world we live in has changed. For the safety and security of my family and dogs, I have made the difficult decision to keep my home private and not open it for in-person visits. Breeders have been targeted in their homes, with some even being murdered - an alarming and terrifying reality. I prioritize the well-being of everyone involved, both human and canine.

I am happy to answer any questions, share photos, and I keep my web site up to date to insure transparency. I greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting this policy. Thank you for supporting responsible breeders and the safety of all.

  • May I send a deposit? - I accept a limited number of deposits on current or upcoming, planned breedings. Pet puppies are placed with approved homes first to those who have sent a deposit. Deposits are a confirmation that you definitely want a puppy from Encore. Deposits are refunded if no puppy is offered within a year of their receipt.

  • Will I get the sex and color puppy I hope for? - Every attempt is made to provide the sex and color puppy you are hoping for but that is not always possible. More important is matching a potential puppy to fit with the lifestyle of the potential family. Being flexible, especially re color, is advised.

  • Do you have a mailing list? - I do not have a mailing list.

  • How do I know I am included in your list of inquirers? - If you have completed one of the Purchasing A Puppy Questionnaires your inquiry is included in my file.

  • When should I reconnect re puppy placements? - I rely on you to keep a check of the web site and to confirm your interest when litter details are added and again when litters arrive.

  • When do puppies go to their new homes? - Puppies are typically available between 9 and 10 weeks.

  • I live out of state, can delivery of my puppy be arranged? - Ground transport or flight nanny can transport, that cost is in addition to the purchase price.

  • What health testing do the parents have? - Health Testing is reviewed at the link on the Puppies Page.

  • Are puppies health tested? - Encore puppies are raised essentially naturally with over 50 years experience behind my program. Puppies are too young to have any formal health testing. Genetic testing is completed if it is not known by parentage.

  • What vaccines have the puppies received? - Puppies receive a minimum of 1 - 5 way vaccine. Puppy vaccines are given at 3 - 4 week intervals.

  • May I meet the sire (father) and dam (mother) of the litter? - The dam is almost always available to meet. Meeting the sire is not always possible.

  • Will my puppy's tail be docked and dew claws be removed? - Yes, all puppies have those done.

  • Is ear cropping required? - Cropping is not required for pet puppies. Show puppies are addressed on an individual basis.

  • Will my puppy be examined by a veterinarian before purchase? - Every puppy receives a complete veterinary check before leaving Encore. A copy of the veterinary report is provided.

  • Will my puppy come with a guarantee? - Puppies are guaranteed against life compromising genetic defects.

  • Do you have a waiting list? - I keep an ongoing file of all completed inquires.

  • How are decisions made regarding puppy placements? - Your inquiry is carefully reviewed. Placements are determined from the info shared there as well as additional communications.

  • How will I know when a litter arrives? - Due to the large number of inquiries it is impossible for me to reach out to everyone individually. Please check back on my site periodically for updates - photos, etc.

  • How will I follow the litter progress? - Once puppies arrive photos will be updated on my site weekly. Confirming your interest as they develop is recommended.

  • When will I know if a puppy will be available to me? - As puppies develop and evaluations are made I reach out via email and then phone re placement of available puppies. I meticulously comb through all inquires in my file making the best choices I can for my puppies. Decisions re placement are never made before 8 weeks of age.

  • If I have sent an inquiry will I defintiely get a puppy from your next litter? - I respond to inquiries all the time. Some people wait specifically for an Encore puppy, others get one from the first available litter they can find. I cannot say for certain until puppies arrive and are evaluated.

  • I have not heard about a possible puppy, why? - Please check in if you have not heard from me, puppy time is very busy. The demand for well bred Boxers is extrememly high and unfortunately, we may not be able to meet everyone’s expectations.

  • I have found a puppy from another breeder, should I let you know? - Yes, please. Drop me a note so I can make the notation in my file.
