Important Tips for Thawing
Please Read Immediately! 1. Check the canister immediately for vapor to ensure the tank is still charged. Check it twice daily while waiting for insemination procedure. If necessary, refill with Liquid nitrogen from your local supplier. This is a 4 liter tank. 2. Check your temps on water bath! Temps for thawing should range between 98 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit.** Do not leave the thawed semen in the water bath past 1 minute!!!! Semen thaw times vary from company to company, this is a quick thaw method. Please read the enclosed instructions!!!! We occasionally have situations where the semen is thawed longer than required, this will kill the semen!! Semen will do better if once thawed, it is taken out of the water bath by syringe and held in your hand. Do not thaw more than 10 minutes from anticipated insemination procedure.
3. Check thawed semen for motility on a warmed slide. Semen will have a slower motility
and move in circles if looked at on a cold or room temperature slide.
4. Water is spermicidal!!!! Take necessary precautions to ensure NO water is dripped into
semen sample. Make sure hands are not wet when handling semen.
5. Do not try to overfill uterus when performing surgical insemination! Usually only 1 cc on
each side of the uterus is good for large sized dogs. Less volume on small dogs. Be sure to plunge
the syringe attached to catheter in the uterus very slowly and stop when resistance is felt.
